The dove, as a symbol of peace, hope, and the Holy Spirit boasts a cultural history spanning thousands of years. At the same time, the war use of pigeons date almost equally far back in time. They served military purposes not only in the antiquity and the middle ages, but they were put to use even in modern wars. As a result of technological progress, almost every country has demobilised their carrier pigeon division by now, but the fowls are still used by underground associations and private individuals to manage illicit businesses including spying, smuggling data, drugs and other goods. They still serve as means of human endeavour.
The work was commissioned for CAPAZINE by the Robert Capa Contemporary Photography Center in 2018.
